First Blog - Giving to Get?

Hi Everyone welcome to my blog, I am blessed you have visited my site and I do hope you will engage in our debates.I am distressed more than ever about the PROSPERITY teaching out there with no practical help whatsoever for Gods people. Let me know your thoughts on the subject below.

The current trend of GIVING TO GET is taught by some Ministries what do you think?

The emotive sentiment within the phrase 'gving to get' tends of itself to divide opinion. This is unhelpful.

Jesus clearly indicates that a farmer sows seed in order to reap a crop; why else would he do it?

Giving should reflect both our desire to honour God in the way that He has prescribed and also the depth of our love for the gift that He has already given. Any further benefit that may accrue is just a bonus.

Jill Said:
When I give, it is from the fullness in my heart which the Lord has given me. If I hang onto it, it becomes stale and impotent, but if I give in response to the Holy Spirit rising in my heart, I don't have to measure "sentiment" or worry about the consequences, whether it is for my good or not.
I don't give by being coaxed with treats but because the Lord loves me and loves to bless others either with or without me!
Most of the prosperity preachers I've seen have huge congregations in rich areas of America which can support their needs amply. Their evangelising should be without charge and without artificial incentives.
Terry, your teaching about getting others round us who appreciate the potential in us, and can encourage us into that place, needs to be shouted from the roofs! It's not positive thinking but pressing into God's best for us. Keep up the preaching - you're so gifted!

What exactly is "practical prosperity"?

I have occasionally seen your prgrammes and I have seen that you do have a christian ethos.

Still wealth is here today gone tomorrow what god gives he can take away to test us.

Job wasn't just blessed by God. He was also tested.

God gave us life. And I ask God sometimes for my daily bread. He asks us not to covet so I shouldn't desire the wealth of others.

The only rule that we need is to love god and love othrs. That is the greatest commandment.

May God judge us truefully as he can't not do.

Thanks.

James

Well, Jesus said that if you give you shall receive, good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over.

I've been giving continually for the past seven years , in tithes and offerings and in most cases at least 20% - 50% of my weekly income and in some cases 100%, either through being coaxed or a belief I'm being led by the Holy Spirit.

I have never received any of the 30, 60 or a 100 fold that most preachers preach, in fact my income has either stayed the same or has dropped.

So, I can say giving to receive doesn't work, well not as of yet for me - I'm still living in hope though, for a suddenly, lol.

My dilemma now is that if I stop giving, will that automatically cancel all the work I've put in over the years? Talk about a two edged sword. (sorry about sounding cynical, but you got to laugh or you'll cry.)

Well, if I never receive, I do hope that the money that I have sowed or given has helped someone else.

Now I do like the point Terry is trying to make with Practical prosperity, but what i've caught in his programs on Revelation TV I don't hear much of the practical things that you can do to increase your wealth. I have bought many books, cd's from both christian and secular sources, but get the same information repackaged in a different cover.

Like they say, the only way to make money from a book, is to write one.

They all teach you how to invest and manage money, but they don't tell you how to make money in the first place to be able to manage and invest it.

Another adage, ask a multi-millionaire how he made his money, and he will most happily tell you, but he will never tell you how he made his first million.

So, I've always dreamed of coming from a rich family and growing up rich, because I hate poverty and would like to help others who are in the same boat (but God has to first call me to step out of the boat onto the water to do so). When I became a Christian, I found out that God owns the "cattle on a thousand hills", in fact he owns everything, and he is my father, so I believed my dream had come true.

I've always felt like the older brother of the prodigal son, where the father tells him" all I have is yours". I know this, but how on earth do I get in on some of it?

Giving to get?

I'm very uncomfortable with that concept - it doesn't seem biblical to me (despite the sower/seed/harvest allusion).

Surely it's not that we should give to get, but give because we have already been given to in Christ Jesus?

I just can't imagine being able to preach *give to get* in large parts of the world, but Jesus and His free gift of salvation and Gods subsequent provision and care is applicable to all men, everywhere.

I'm sorry if thats not the most helpful of comments, but I'm encouraged to see you have a blog and look forward to reading more from you.

God bless.

Keep up the Good work Terry it is good to hear a man of God speaking out about this Prosperity Gospel. I have longed for someone to stand up and say this is wrong teaching. How much money is being wasted on building preachers houses and rich lifestyle? So much money wasted when half the world is starving and needs our help especially from Christians. Jesus never said get saved and get rich but he did promise to provide everything we need which is a totally different thing!
God gave up his Son Jesus to die on a cross for the world so that people may come to know him and have a new life. It is sad that this version of Christianity is going out to millions of People especially to people who are sick/starving/desperate/have no one to turn to/when they listen to it they must say to themselves I want that “get saved and Prosper” or “get saved and get healed” or “give money and God will work miracles”
Terry we need you to speak out especially on Christian TV
You have the talent and opportunity to speak for millions of Christians who believe this version of Christianity is very very wrong.
We need to confront these people face on and challenge them.
God bless you Terry may our Lord Jesus give you the strength to carry on the fight. So many people in our world are hurting/starving/sick/without hope/ yet we have the answer and that answer is free his name is Jesus.
We do not need to pay him or plant seeds we do not need to send for green handkerchiefs or manna bread or miracle water all we need to do is say we believe in him and want a new life where are sins are washed away and Jesus will do it free of charge.
PS He will also provide everything he knows we need “Free of Charge”
